Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never done it before. You may be unsure what to expect or whether counselling is right for you. This page is here to give you a clear idea of how counselling works and what sessions with me might feel like.
Counselling is a space where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in confidence. It offers time just for you — to reflect, to feel understood, and to explore whatever is troubling you, without judgement.
People come to counselling for many reasons, including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, stress, or feeling stuck or overwhelmed. There is no “right” reason to seek counselling.
I work primarily in a person-centred way, meaning the focus is on you and what you choose to bring to each session. I won’t tell you what to do or judge your experiences. Instead, I support you in exploring your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, helping you build greater self-awareness and confidence in your own decisions.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place once a week. During a session, you are free to talk about whatever feels important to you at that time. Some sessions may feel emotional, others more reflective — both are completely normal.
There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready. Counselling moves at your pace.
Confidentiality is a vital part of counselling. What you share in sessions remains private, with a few legal and ethical exceptions, which I will explain clearly before we begin. This helps create a safe and trusting environment where you can speak freely.
Counselling is not about being told what to do or being “fixed”. It is about being supported while you explore your own experiences and find your own way forward.
I offer a free initial telephone consultation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, talk about what’s brought you to counselling, and decide whether working together feels right for you.
Counselling Times & Fees
I offer both short-term and long-term telephone and online sessions for adults 18 and over. I am available Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Each session costs £50. To book a session, payment is required 24 hours beforehand by bank transfer. Concessions are available upon request with appropriate evidence.
